The INA740 is a digital power monitor with an integrated current sensing element along with a 16-bit delta-sigma ADC specifically designed for current-sensing applications. The device can measure full-scale currents up to ±24 A (connector limit, the chip limit is ±35 A) with common-mode voltage support to +85 V.

The INA740 reports current, bus voltage, die temperature, power, energy. The integrated temperature sensor is ±2.5°C accurate over the junction temperature range.

Communication with the sensor is via the I2C bus. The RJ plug of the sensor is compatible with tinycontrol devices, and the sensor is supported by the LK4 controller. For integration with another controller (e.g. Arduino), you should familiarize yourself with the RJ plug pinout, which is described e.g. in the LK4 short manual.

The sensor board is equipped with a 4-position switch that allows you to change the I2C address and thanks to which it is possible to operate 4 sensors on one I2C bus (the functionality is available with LK4).

Start-up

The sensor should be connected according to the diagram, for voltage measurement (and of course power and energy) the LK4 ground and the load ground must be common! In the case of an isolated system, only current measurement can be realized.

Safety Information

Before installing and using the device, please read the following recommendations:

Current and voltage range:

Current: The maximum continuous current through the connectors is ±24A. Do not exceed this value to avoid overheating or damage to the device.

Voltage: The device supports common-mode voltages up to 85V. Exceeding this limit may damage the measuring system.

Power supply:

The device requires a stable supply voltage of 3.3V.
It is implemented from the LK4 controller, if reading measurements is made on another device, make sure that the power supply meets these requirements and is adequately protected against overvoltages.

Mounting:

The device is designed for mounting on a 35mm DIN rail in a dry and well-ventilated place.

Avoid mounting near heat sources and in places exposed to moisture or condensation.

Wiring:

For the current connection, use wires with an appropriate cross-section (AWG12–24), adapted to the expected current load.

The wires should be securely attached to the terminals to ensure a good electrical connection and minimize the risk of overheating.

Safety of use:

Before making any changes to the wiring or configuration of the device, disconnect the power supply.

Do not touch exposed wires or terminals during operation.

If you suspect damage to the device (e.g. visible signs of overheating, mechanical damage), immediately disconnect it from the power supply and consult the manufacturer or authorized service.

Integration with other systems:

In the case of integration with other devices or systems, make sure that all components are electrically and mechanically compatible.

Observe the safety rules applicable to the entire system in which the device is installed.

Note: The manufacturer is not liable for damage resulting from incorrect installation, use other than for its intended purpose or failure to follow the above recommendations.

If you require additional information or have any questions regarding the safe use of this device, please contact the Tinycontrol technical department.
